Small Business Health Care
According to recent estimates 47 million Americans are currently without health insurance. More than 60 percent of the uninsured are either small business employees or dependents of small business employees. Solving the health care crisis in the United States requires that we address the barriers faced by small businesses and their employees. Policies that improve the options for small businesses will have a dramatic impact on access to health insurance across the country. Appleseed’s work in this area focuses on examining the effectiveness, both in terms of cost and reduction in the number of uninsured, of a variety of reform options. Full Report >>

Work Supports
Appleseed is educating employers about the role of public benefit programs in supporting their workers and businesses, while providing materials and models that will help them assist their employees in accessing benefits. With the help of an engaged small business community, many eligible families could be covered under state-funded health care, child care, food stamp and Earned Income Tax Credit programs. While many low-wage workers qualify, these public benefits are frequently not accessed because of lack of information, stigma or inadequate state funding. Full Report>>
